How to create and use a safe space in schools
This guide explains to education staff how to establish a safe space within a school environment for pupils who may need it, and the ways in which its use should be managed.
The purpose of this resource is to educate and support colleagues working in classroom settings to set up a safe space to support children and young people with emotional regulation.
The resource includes:
- advice and guidance on how to set up a safe space
- how it could be resourced and managed
- strategies to support children and young people in its use as part of a crisis prevention and management approach.
The principles of this approach could be adapted for pupils with a wide range of needs and age ranges.
